a collaboration between Legit Theatre Co and Melbourne's Stage Mom

FREE || BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL

This reading is a project over a year in the making. The team behind the play's 2019 inception - Melbourne-based director Hannah Fallowfield and playwright Alberto Di Troia - will join us to bring this hilarious and dark queer comedy to KXT, featuring a complete Sydney-based cast.

Britney Spears' #1 Australian fan, Steve, has dragged his boyfriend Adam all the way to Las Vegas to see Britney's concert residency. But things aren't going so well. For a start, they’re mistaken everywhere for long-defunct Aussie pop act Savage Garden. Their Airbnb host, Chad, is a closeted far-right Christian who’s convinced that Britney is his fiancee. And then they meet Judy, a narcissistic mother with a gun fetish, and her gay, terminally ill, ex-child star son Kevin, who has special backstage passes of his own

When Steve’s tickets are inexplicably cancelled, everything falls apart, and the couple are soon spiralling towards a brutal showdown behind the curtains of Britney’s glittering facade. Will they ever escape the dark heart of American pop culture - and find a way to love each other again?

And when Fianna discovers that the old reptile is in fact still very much alive, all hell breaks loose as they confront his hideous legacy.

Clara is recently jobless and uncomfortably numb. Cocooned in her minimalist home, she wallows in tracky-dacks immobilized by the images of natural disasters piped into her living room by the pitiless glare of the TV, and haunted by what she could aspire to if she could break from her funk. Her relentlessly upbeat partner Erik has devised a plan for her to get back on her feet. Instead, she devises a series of increasingly gruesome ‘quests’ for him. Uncomfortable truths are revealed and there are hints of horrors to come, as ancient myths are dragged, growling, into the modern day

NORM'S by Alex Lee-Rekers

Late night at Norm's: a roadside cafe so beaten by years of traffic and not-traffic its era is impossible to determine. And outside--somewhere between the parking lot lamps and the black of the highway--two figures prepare to deliver life-altering news to those inside...

Blue Heart by Caryl Churchill

Directed by Benjamin Sheen

Heart’s Desire: Brian and his wife Alice, together with Brian's sister Maisie, are waiting for the arrival of their daughter Susy, who is returning home after some years spent in Australia. A simple domestic scenario is replayed over and over with widely differing developments – some heartbreaking, some wildly comical or surreal.

Blue Kettle: a middle-aged man, Derek, and his girlfriend, Enid, are involved in a con trick, making a series of elderly women believe that Derek is the son they once gave up for adoption. But as the situation develops, the play's dialogue undergoes a radical distortion with characters using the words 'blue' and 'kettle', apparently at random, and to an extent that grows increasingly disruptive.
